Last Friday I declared that I was partaking in:
Operation Closet Organization
So, that is exactly what I did. Brandon and I have a large-ish closet. Well, bigger then I have ever had! When we moved in the house and I saw the closet rays of light shone from the door and I heard the angels singing inside. I could actually walk in it. We could both fit in it as a matter of fact! Brandon likes to call it my closet, but I mean come on...he has 1 rack! Isn;t that all men need?! Geez. So I often find myself sitting/laying/pouting in the closet floor staring up at all the clothes that I don't have. When really...it's because they are all shoved together and I can't really see the 'big picture'. I mean don't get me wrong if you wanted into my closet before this weekend you would think I was stupid for wanting to organize it as everything is organized by size and color. Gotta love the OCD in us. Well, since I have been stealing from the stores lately, hello! I need more room!!!
This is what I did to maximize our closet space + organize
Here is Brandon's side of the closet.
Shirts on the top & all of our pants & my skirts on the bottom.
We have 1 hamper in our closet in the bathroom that is for towels and we HAD 1 hamper in the closet for all of our clothes. Well, we tend to wear 3 outfits a day...work, gym, pjs. So that one hamper was about on my LAST nerves. I hated sorting them. Yes, I sort and wash my clothes according to color like my sweet mom taught me. :) Anyways, while I was out junkin' Saturday a hamper organizer was on my list. Unfortunately...I found 1 that was broken and once that was really grossly stained, ew. Fail. Well the next day I went to Walmart and found one for $14. It has three different dividers which was exactly what I was looking for! It fits perfect and I can now sleep peacefully at night! Score!
Here is my side of the closet. Tank tops-Sweater dresses. In order by color. Call me crazy, I don't care. I used to have all my summer dresses in there, but obviously that was taking up WAY too much room and I don't really need them right now as it is like 50 degrees out. I put them in the guest room closet, so even if I do need them, they're right down the hall.
In the bottom of this picture you can see two wooden shelves I bought at a yard sale a few years ago. I had them side by side, but to maximize our space, I stacked them! Brandon's shoes fit on here too! Unfortunately {or not ;)} I had 3 pairs of shoes in the mail on it's way so...gonna have to make some more room.
My heels are too high to fit in the little shelves, so I stole Brandon's shoe rack {that he was using} and put them on here. My boots are lined beside them and my sandals and flip flops are tucked away with my summer dresses.
What to do with all those scarfs?! They don't need to be in my coat closet as they serve as a necklace/accessory, duh! So I had to fit them in here. I almost bought a peg type thing at the Goodwill, but then realized the pegs weren't big enough. For now this will do, but would love something with individual hangers for each scarf.
This was tricky. All those belts, geez! Well, at Walmart we picked up a 'utility hanger'. This is meant for rakes, brooms, mops, etc. but we made it a belt hanger. I mean...have you seen the actual belt hangers? Get real! We have more then just 2 belts.
This is a piece my dad made for me a few years ago for Christmas. It is my favorite. When I got it, I opened it confused like what is this?! I had NO clue he was doing any kind of project for me! It's an 'A' necklace hanger. I have the best dad in the world. It's been painted a few times to match my different themed rooms I've had. When we moved into the house I walked into the closet to do more unpacking and there it was hung by my sweet husband-as a surprise :) I am a necklace junky, obviously.
Pinterest Perfect
So, last Saturday when I went junkin I bought this cute {jk} frame for only $3! I needed this size for a special Pinterest Project.
Remember? Cute, right?
Once upon a time when I was like, 13...my brother bought me this jewelry box for Christmas. I have used it ever since and it has been the best! Well, unfortunately Pinterest has taken over and I found a new cute way to display/store my jewelry. Green basket has all my bangles {I am a bangle hoarder} and bracelets.
BEFORE:
AFTER:
Ugly $3 frame + spray paint + cork = perfection.
{Other random frames I had}
.50 cent paper towel holder + bangles = fab.
I am so pleased with the time & little money I spent on this project. It's so nice to be able to walk into the closet and SEE everything I have. Hopefully Brandon won't walk in and see my laying on the floor pouting because I have 'nothing to wear'.
Next this is an idea that I stole from Fran's son's one year old bday party. Remember the shelf I put above our bed? Well, I've added something to it!
Love, love, loved this project!
Sepia photos + twine + close pins
So, if you know me...you know I love a nice nail.
If you wonder why I refer to it as singular, when obviously I have 10
...watch this video.
Anyways...I did my nail like this. Each ring finger. Loves!
The nude is Essie: Limoscene
The sparkle is: Idk something from Walmart.
Well, obv. I need to get to pinning so I can do some more projects! ;)
Love :) You're my DIY inspiration Amanda!!!!
ReplyDeleteI would do this and it would be a mess in a heartbeat. I am the "this looks good but what else do I have to put on?" clothing wearer. Good job, Amanda!

Amanda, I have a question for you. Would you like to do a guest post for me Saturday? If not thats ok I can have one of my friends do it but I have had two so far do it. I just thought it would be neat to have some of my actual blog girls to do it as well since i have been gone on vacation.
ReplyDeleteI Love all the pinterest ideas!! Everything turned out so cute!! I can't wait until I have a bigger closet to do all that cute stuff with!!
