Mannerisms.

Have you ever noticed when you are around someone a lot you tend to pick up mannerisms, gestures or certain things that they say? I can always tell when I've been around specific people a lot when things THEY SAY come out of MY MOUTH! It's so funny when I catch myself! Ever heard the saying, "Sometimes I open my mouth and my mother comes out." ? True. That's me. It happens all the time now that I am a mom. I hear myself say something to the kids and I just giggle because I either sound like my mom or my mawmaw.
When I was little I would always sit with my dad. We would sit beside each other in a chair or recliner and watch TV together. When the chair is reclined and his feet are propped up he has a habit of crossing his legs and rubbing his feet and toes together. A few weeks ago I was sitting in silence just listening to the Lord. I was laying down and had my eyes closed. I was praying and waiting for Him to communicate with me. He brought me back to this memory of when I was just a young girl and I was sitting in the recliner with my dad. I crossed my legs and started rubbing my feet together just like he does. My mom started giggling and he looked down at me and had a smirk on his face.. one of those, "that's my girl" looks. As I thought about this memory during this quiet time with the Lord I heard him say to me, "Isn't it interesting how you can pick up on mannerisms from other people? Just like this one with your Father. He is your Father here on earth and look at the influence he has on you but I am your Heavenly Father. What mannerisms of Mine do you have? Do you love your family the way I would? Do you treat others with love the way I do?"
Woah. I could do nothing at that point but lay there in the revelation that He had revealed to me and take a step back to evaluate. How do I treat my family? How do I respond to certain situations? How do I love others?
Then I couldn't help put pray and plead that He would take over. That this would be a time that I would remember consistently as I have opportunities to take on His mannerisms as I continue to move through life.
