Interval training is one of my favorite workouts to do. The lovely hubs, Brandon♥, taught me all about it while he was away on his first deployment. Well, his second, my first.
If you didn't know, I am ADHD {Thanks DAD!} No, really...I love it. It's a good thing I enjoy working out, because it's one way to drain my energy. I like interval training because it is such an intense workout. I'm a big cardio junky, so I tie in interval training with my cardio.
Examples:
Running, biking, swimming, stair stepper, etc.
It's a good workout, because you are 'shocking' your body. It's intense, because you switch everything up, hence 'shock'. Instead of doing a straight run for 20 minutes, you run 1:30 and then speed walk for 30. Rotate that out for your 20 minute exercise. The time will fly.
But where can I do this?
Outside & Inside
If you are in a neighborhood you can go by mailboxes or driveways. Walk two, run 3 or 4. On a busy street with a sidewalk? You can go by the street lights, or count the cracks in the sidewalk. At home on the treadmill watching your fave TV show? Run the show, walk the commercial. MANY different options. You can do it with weights as well, but Brandon would have to educate you on that.
I read an article once that showed if you break your workouts up, you burn more fat. Running 4 miles is great, but if you are really trying to cut fat, running 2 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon will just burn fat that much faster.
Yesterday was my first day back to the gym in over two months. So glad my cysts are healed and so glad I was able to go back! I hit it hard and lifted legs...if you work out you know that legs is the worst. Already feeling it a little bit. So motivating.
Today I was up at 5:00 AM. Shocker, I know. Usually I lay in the bed and hit snooze 15 times. However, today I was up and at the CAC {Clarksville Athletic Club} and met a friend to run. Today I started my Couch to 5K training. Ran 1.5 miles then I was off to get ready for work!
After losing 20 lbs AND toning in the short two months of dedication I have grown passionate about fitness and nutrition. It's incredible what can be done. Michael {the brother} is really big into working out as well, and has been for quite some time now. We were talking one day about how crazy it truly is and that working out is an art, because you can literally sculpt your body any way you want. So now, I have respect for the people in the gym that have really toned bodies. Although I know some people may use the not-so-legal form of building. Now, I'm far from a genius when it comes to anything about diet & exercise, but I do know some stuff! :)
After reaching my first goal, I know that running a half marathon will be nothing, and that I CAN do it!
You go girl! Love your post!
ReplyDeleteGO MANDER GO!! Can't wait to run with you my friend!
ReplyDeleteI am training for a 5k in December too. I finally just hit 3.1 miles. My long term goal is a half-marathon but I am fully aware it will take some time. Let me know if you are interested in running the 5k with me. It's December 11th
