DIY Canvas Craft

25 October 2012

While Brandon is gone I always like to do DIY projects to stay busy. Unfortunately we've got our house pretty much set up, but I did find one spot in our bedroom where I could make and hang a canvas project that I've been wanting to do!

My friend Ashley and I got together and had the best time. There's nothing worse then doing a DIY project and it turning out bad. Time and money down the drain. But this one, I am very proud of. It looks awesome!

For the project you will need:
-Canvas
-Fabric {enough to cover over the canvas}
- Staple Gun
-Stickers
-Acrylic Paint
-Sponge Brush
-Scissors

Directions:
Iron the fabric then wrap around the canvas tightly and staple. Trim edges.

I used the same fabric that I used to make a pillow that's on our bed and is behind our picture frame message board in our bedroom. Matchy-matchy!

As you can see we used three different sizes and fonts. We picked a main basic font, then choose a big block font, and a cursive font. We wrote out the verses we were using on paper, made sure everything was spelled correctly, and then decided what fonts we wanted what words.

Then place the stickers on the canvas.

Once you have the stickers all lined up, start painting!

VERY IMPORTANT TIP: Do NOT use a normal paint brush. Use a sponge brush.
If you 'swipe' over the stickers, they'll move. And project ruined.
Use the sponge brush and dab over the letters. You can swipe over everything else.

Let dry 2-3 hours so paint will sit. Peel letters and wah-lah!

Ta-da! This is mine.

And this is Ashley's. Her's is awesome because of how the paint is so
light that you can see the print on the fabric all the way through!

Here it is displayed in our bedroom.
Love it! It was one of the surprises for Brandon when he got home. He loves it too! :)
